A lot of people don’t know that selective breeding is responsible for the various dog breeds that exist in the world today, and it has been a huge influence on these dog’s shapes and sizes for thousands of years. Over the years as purebreds were bred to obtain certain characteristics, they grew to barely resemble their past selves. This selective breeding causes the dogs to be prone to genetic disorders which will leave a lifetime of pain and discomfort.
The older dog images on the left are from a 1915 book called “Breeds of all nations”. The images on the right are modern ones. The comparison will surprise you.
In the breeder’s effort to make sure their dogs fit their breeding standards, breeders will euthanize healthy puppies who don’t fit their standards. For this reason alone you should always adopt and not buy a purebred.
